Michele and Andrew: part 1

August 24th, 2010

It’s 10:45pm and boy what a day!  I promised Michele these images would be up today and I am going to come through on my promise.  It wasn’t supposed to be this late in the evening when I would do this post, but this day has totally ruled me.  Let’s just say this day has involved forgetting a car seat, getting sucked into Earth Fare and roaming the isles when I should be working, and then rolling my ankle during a soccer game tonight.  UGH!…so now I’m here and getting it done. yipee!

I must admit that while shooting Michele and Andrew’s wedding, I had been thinking a lot about the work of Susan Stripling.  I’m a huge fan and she has some of the best interpretation of light in my humble opinion.  I was very inspired by her work before this wedding so I tried to really focus on my lighting selections and photograph in a way that was still…well,…me, but to also take it up a notch.  Hopefully it came through.

Please make sure you hop over to Paula Player’s blog to see her take on the day!

Thanks Michele and Andrew you guys have to be one of the most laid back couple I’ve ever worked with.  You gave me the ability to be creative, which is why I do this in the first place.  Much love!

Amy and Jason: e-session

August 17th, 2010

Amy and Jason’s shoot was almost the hottest July day of this summer.  Katie and Andrew’s wedding only has them beat by a little bit. HA!  Regardless, hopefully you can’t tell that we’re about to melt away.  For me, the key to shooting in hot weather is definitely not to move much so I try to keep the shoot to relatively the same location.  Me, plus the lovely couple try to pick a place with diverse scenery so we don’t have to move much.  The Piedmont Club in Spartanburg and the church next door was a perfect fit.  Of course bringing the puppy dog along for some shots always makes for great composition.

Thanks Amy and Jason.  You guys were just delightful to shoot.  Can’t wait for the wedding.  cheers!

In October of 2004 I married the most wonderful man on God's green earth. It wasn't long into our marriage that he started encouraging me to remember what keeps me feeling young and happy. I then started to recall my love for the arts. Growing up, my mother was always painting and drawing and even now I have her paintings framed throughout my home. She and I used to sit together on Saturdays and draw together. I love those memories. I did manage to take some painting and drawing classes as a youngster, but was always discouraged at how long it took for the final product. So I eventually got bored and felt too frustrated to develop the talent. It wasn't until marrying Matt that all this began to surface again. Anyone that has met my husband knows of his love for bicycles so since he was riding every saturday, I seized the opportunity to get into a hobby myself that I could spend time doing on my Saturdays while he was riding. So one day I just decided to do it and went out and bought my first nice camera and signed up for a class in Greenville. I was in love!! Photography gave me the satisfaction that drawing did, but with an instant product. Almost four years later my passion and talent have continued to grow and develop. I love what I do and I love people. The day I picked up a camera was the day I quit working. I hope that my images inspire you in some way and that you see the world all the more beautiful because of them. -Olivia
