Katie and Ben: e-session in Charleston, SC

September 2nd, 2010

You really can’t beat Charleston for any kind of photography.  So when Katie told me that’s where they wanted their session, I was more than happy.  Our little family decided we’d take a little vacation to Charleston this past July so everything lined up perfectly.  The only thing we had to deal with was the heat.  And oh gracious was it hot for this shoot.  You’d never know from this lovely couple that we’re all sweating like crazy.  I, personally looked like I had been swimming.  Anyway, these two were aaaadorable and I’m totally digging Katie’s little yellow dress…so in right now.

On a personal note, Katie and Ben brought along their little golden puppy.  Sniff sniff…my Kenah (also a golden) passed away from cancer back in May.  I actually haven’t blogged about it.  It’s been too hard to share and honestly I felt that if I did a whole post on her and how great she was it just wouldn’t be enough.  Not to mention that I just emtionally couldn’t handle it.  I got kenah in college as a puppy and she was an incredible dog and best friend.  Much love to my pumpkin and all the other pumpkins out there.

Ever since having a daughter of my own, the “father daughter” dance has become so special to me.  That’s way, hands down, these are my favorite images from the day.  I really imagine that when Amelia gets married, Matt will dance with her and hold her and still remember what it feels like to hold her as a baby.  I don’t think that goes away for a parent.  This is why I have the best job in the world.

Katie and Andrew: part 1

August 27th, 2010

I thought I would try something a little different for this post and see how it goes over.  I’ll be honest, I love blogging, but boy does it take FOREVER.  I’ve been thinking for a while I should try using my album software to create a layout and then upload it as an image.  Last night I did that and seriously it cut my blogging from 2 hours to 30 minutes!!  Wow, you can accomplish a lot when you use your common sense.  It’s embarrassing it took me so long to go that route.  Anyway, I hope YOU (my readers) like this layout ok because it’s a lot quicker.  I’m sure I’ll tweak it some, but it works for today.

So enough about me, how about this vibrant and classy wedding?!  Everyone was just lovely inside and out.  Katie and Andrew were super lowkey and easy to work with and they were so kind to let me “do my thang”.  I know I say this a lot about my couples and maybe it’s because the more I grow as a photographer, the more I attract the couples that are willing to let me do this.  Also, I think…and this is just my two cents worth…it’s always smart to show the images that appeal to you as a photographer instead of what you think everyone else will be drawn to.  This way, you naturally attract clients that love what you love.  So, many “thanks” to Katie and Andrew for allowing the creativity to flow.  I’m super giddy about the next post for this wedding.  My favorite shot of the day is in there so stay tuned for Monday’s post. cheers everyone! ceremony

In October of 2004 I married the most wonderful man on God's green earth. It wasn't long into our marriage that he started encouraging me to remember what keeps me feeling young and happy. I then started to recall my love for the arts. Growing up, my mother was always painting and drawing and even now I have her paintings framed throughout my home. She and I used to sit together on Saturdays and draw together. I love those memories. I did manage to take some painting and drawing classes as a youngster, but was always discouraged at how long it took for the final product. So I eventually got bored and felt too frustrated to develop the talent. It wasn't until marrying Matt that all this began to surface again. Anyone that has met my husband knows of his love for bicycles so since he was riding every saturday, I seized the opportunity to get into a hobby myself that I could spend time doing on my Saturdays while he was riding. So one day I just decided to do it and went out and bought my first nice camera and signed up for a class in Greenville. I was in love!! Photography gave me the satisfaction that drawing did, but with an instant product. Almost four years later my passion and talent have continued to grow and develop. I love what I do and I love people. The day I picked up a camera was the day I quit working. I hope that my images inspire you in some way and that you see the world all the more beautiful because of them. -Olivia
